Excerpt from a speech by Robert Hardt, President and Chief Executive Officer of Siemens Canada, to the Canadian Association for Business Economics delivered March 21, 2017:
“Innovation is the best – the only – chance we have to survive and thrive in our ever-changing corporate world. In fact, innovation is our only chance in the world, period! If we don’t innovate for sustainability, all will be lost.
“This may involve change at a very significant level – large corporations may, in fact, need to transform their entire business model in order to create the right environment for effective innovation.
“Educational institutions may need to re-think their way of working with the ‘outside world’, especially the corporations who are hiring their graduates. Siemens Canada has led the way to more effective collaboration with educational institutions, through the creation of the Siemens Academy and other collaborative programs.
“And government may – in fact, does – need to re-think their systems of response and regulation. Government oversight is critical in a civilized nation – but government restriction and red tape can be death to innovation. We must collaborate effectively to create this new, disruptive eco-system.”
