In this episode of 60 Seconds, Trevor Kennedy explains why it’s important for Canada to play a leadership role in building consensus among our closest partners and allies.
This weekend, Prime Minister Trudeau will be in southwestern France to participate in the 45th G7 Summit. So what is the G7, and why is this summit important? The G7 is an informal group of 7 leading economies and representation from the European Union, and leaders meet on an annual basis to discuss a wide range of issues. For this year’s summit, France has selected the topic of combatting inequality. The leaders will also want to discuss ongoing trade tensions, security risks and the risk of a global recession. For all of these issues, there needs to be global cooperation. And Canada can play an important role in building consensus.
