Budget 2024

Tax and spend fiscal plan will inhibit growth

Today Canada took a major step toward strengthening its trade ties with the world’s fastest-growing region. When the new Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership is implemented, Canadians will gain enhanced market access for everything from agricultural goods to advanced manufacturing exports, financial services and forestry products. As Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said today, the CPTPP will create and sustain  growth, prosperity and well-paying middle-class jobs now and for generations to come. On behalf of Canada’s business leaders, I congratulate the Prime Minister as well as International Trade Minister François-Philippe Champagne and the dedicated team of negotiators at Global Affairs Canada.  Their hard work and perseverance over many months has resulted in an agreement of which all Canadians can be proud. The success of the CPTPP negotiations sends a powerful signal about the benefits of international cooperation, and underscores Canada’s reputation as a champion of open markets and economic opportunity.
