Robert Asselin believes there is a growing desire among Canadians for a shift in the current economic policy direction. His perspective was shared in multiple news sources in coverage of the federal cabinet shuffle.

“I didn’t sense any new ambition on the economic front, any change of direction on the spending side, any change on fiscal policy that obviously needs to happen because of high inflation.”

“The optics is a big shuffle. But the government will stay the course on the main direction it has taken, which is not to be overly concerned about economic policy and continue to spend a lot of money.”

“I don’t sense any change of direction. Given that the main players – the finance minister and the prime minister – are signaling that it’s business as usual.”
