Dear Friends,

It’s been a difficult winter for all of us and some of us are about to enter another long weekend under stay-at-home orders, but it is important to remain hopeful that better days are ahead.

Yes, COVID-19 has taken too many lives and has affected the well-being and livelihoods of many more. But with millions of vaccine doses expected to arrive by the end of March there is reason for optimism.

The path forward will require leadership and teamwork.

This week our board chair, Don Lindsay, joined me in writing an open letter to the Prime Minister and Premiers. Signed by more than 80 of the country‘s top chief executives, the letter highlights the need for collaboration in vaccine rollouts and rapid testing and calls for a partnership between governments and the private sector to save lives, preserve jobs and rebuild our economy.

Our country faces many challenges and we will need everyone working together to address them. Take, for example the crisis in Canada’s travel and tourism industry. Last week Unifor National President Jerry Dias and I united the voices of employers and employees in an op-ed  in support of the aviation sector.

I truly believe that if we can harness all the expertise, resources and creativity of the public and private sectors we will not only emerge from the pandemic stronger, but we will ensure Canada’s success in an increasingly competitive post-pandemic world.

Sincerely,

Yours sincerely,

Goldy Hyder
President and CEO
Business Council of Canada

Goldy Hyder and Jerry Dias, National President of Unifor, combined their voices to show that workers and employers are united in their call for Ottawa to save Canada’s airline industry.
