Canadian business leaders welcome the United Kingdom to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

The U.K. is a key partner for Canada and its addition represents an important milestone for the CPTPP, which has already proven to be an effective driver of trade and investment for Canadian businesses during a time of global volatility. By meeting the agreement’s high standards, the U.K. sets a strong precedent for additional economies to follow.

The CPTPP was designed to grow and as a next step, the Business Council recommends prioritizing bringing the Republic of Korea into the agreement. As a strategic partner for Canada in the North Pacific, South Korea’s membership in the CPTPP would strengthen supply chains among Indo-Pacific partner economies.
