Statement by Goldy Hyder, President and CEO, Business Council of Canada:

Ottawa, March 24, 2021 – As Canada emerges from the COVID-19 pandemic, governments across the country must take concrete action to speed economic recovery, business investment and job creation.

We welcome today’s commitment by the Ontario government to work with business leaders and other stakeholders in building a more prosperous provincial economy. By declaring that Ontario is open for business, the 2021 Ontario budget sends an important message to investors and job creators. Business leaders and entrepreneurs are ready to do their part to enhance growth through increased productivity and job creation for Ontarians.

In our report, “Powering a Strong Recovery”, the Business Council of Canada called on policymakers to adopt a bold new economic vision and strategy for the country. We need a plan that builds on Canada’s strengths, squarely addresses our weaknesses, and reduces the risks from future disruptions.

We look to the federal government to bring forward an ambitious plan for economic growth when it unveils its fiscal plan on April 19.
