Ottawa, June 16, 2023  – The Business Council of Canada is pleased to welcome Dr. Heather Exner-Pirot as special advisor, providing policy advice on the energy transition, Arctic development and security and Indigenous economic reconciliation.

“Heather brings considerable expertise and important new insight to the BCC,” said Goldy Hyder, President & CEO of the Business Council of Canada. “Her western perspective, her in-depth knowledge of Arctic issues and her respected work on Indigenous economic and resource development will help inform our work advocating for sound economic policy.”

In addition to her role with the BCC, Heather is a Senior Fellow and Director of the Natural Resources, Energy and Environment program at the Macdonald-Laurier Institute, a Global Fellow at the Wilson Center in Washington DC, the Research Advisor for the Indigenous Resource Network and the Managing Editor of the Arctic Yearbook. Heather is also a coordinator at the North American and Arctic Defence and Security Network and sits on the boards of the Saskatchewan Indigenous Economic Development Network and the Canadian Rural Revitalization Foundation. She holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Calgary and has authored more than 45 peer-reviewed publications.
