The Honourable James Moore is a Senior Business Advisor at the multinational law firm Dentons and a Public Policy Advisor at the global firm Edelman. He serves as national vice-chair of the Canadian Cancer Society, a member of the Government of Canada’s NAFTA advisory council, and a corporate director. A Member of Parliament for 15 years, he is a former Minister of Industry, Minister of Canadian Heritage & Official Languages, Secretary of State for the Asia Pacific Gateway, and Minister for the 2010 Olympic Games.

Mr. Ballew currently serves as Senior Vice President, Data, Insights & Analytics at Loblaw Companies Limited. Previously, Mr. Ballew served as Vice President, Global Chief Data and Analytics Officer at the Ford Motor Company, a global automotive and mobility company, from December 2014 to April 2019. Prior to joining Ford, Mr. Ballew held senior positions in data and customer analytics at The Dun & Bradstreet Corporation, Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company, General Motors Corporation, and JD Power Associates. Mr. Ballew is also a former Research Officer and Senior Economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. Mr. Ballew served as a Director of NeuStar, Inc. from June 2015 to June 2017, and has served as a Director of Hyatt since 2017.

Chantal Bernier leads the Canadian Privacy and Cybersecurity practice. Chantal comes to Dentons after nearly 6 years leading the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC) as Interim Privacy Commissioner and as Assistant Commissioner. She oversaw the operations of the OPC, including national and international privacy investigations in the public and private sectors, privacy audits, privacy impact assessment reviews as well as technological analysis, privacy policy development and research.

Prior to leading the OPC, Ms. Bernier worked at senior levels of the Government of Canada. She also negotiated international conventions for Canada as part of the International and Constitutional Law Section of the Department of Justice.

Kevin Dougherty is Executive Vice-President, Innovation and Partnerships at Sun Life Financial.  He is responsible for advancing Digital, Data Analytics, and the use of Artificial Intelligence in Sun Life’s operations and business models, as well as the development of the company’s Digital Health Solutions Group, Insurance Research Lab, and external partnerships in Reinsurance, Fintech, and Healthtech. Mr. Dougherty is a member of the Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association (CLHIA), and a volunteer with the United Way of Toronto. He is Vice-Chair of the Providence Healthcare Foundation Board and Chair of their Capital Campaign. He serves on the Board of Governors of the Corporation of Massey Hall and Roy Thomson Hall. He also serves on the Canadian Board Diversity Council.

Chief Technology Officer, Blackberry

Charles Eagan is the Chief Technology Officer for BlackBerry. In this role Charles and team are focused on bringing Cylance based Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence into new areas for BlackBerry. Charles was previously the Global Head of Electronics at Dyson Ltd (U.K.), focused on IoT device deployment. Prior to that he served as BlackBerry’s Global Head of Device Software, and spearheaded development of the BlackBerry 10 operating system and the transition to secure Android. Mr. Eagan was formerly Vice President of Engineering for QNX Software, where he concentrated on the automotive and embedded markets. He also worked at Cisco and directed development of the seminal CRS-1 carrier routing system. Earlier in his career, he built connected devices for Honda in the areas of process control, factory automation and robotics.

Ms. Dyer is the Chief Information Officer for Air Canada.  Previously, Ms. Dyer held the role of Chief Information Officer at Enbridge Inc., and prior to that, Vice President, Information Technology. She also previously held a number of senior management positions, including Vice President, Distribution at WestJet Airlines Ltd., and Director of Sales and Customer Relations, at Telus Corporation.

Ben Harrison is a Partner and the Head of Partnerships & Policy at Portag3 Ventures. Prior to joining in 2018, he spent over 15 years at Canada Life in several strategy, product development and marketing roles across the organization, most recently as the Head of Innovation for Canada. At Portag3 he is responsible for helping to establish strategic partnerships between portfolio companies and investors, as well as leading all government policy activity. Ben acts as an advisor to several portfolio companies and currently sits on the Board of Paytechs of Canada.

Ms. Lipman joined EllisDon in 2011 as Senior Legal Counsel and focused her practice in the area of Public-Private Partnerships. Prior to joining EllisDon, she practiced law at Stikeman Elliott LLP in the areas of Corporate Taxation and Energy & Infrastructure.

As Senior Vice-President, Regulatory Affairs and Government Relations for BCE Inc., Robert Malcolmson is responsible for developing and implementing BCE’s regulatory and government relations strategy. Prior to joining BCE in 2015, Mr. Malcolmson served as the communications law practice leader and department head at Goodmans LLP.  Practicing law with Goodmans for more than 20 years, Mr. Malcolmson advised Canadian and international clients in media, broadcasting, telecom and copyright law and was instrumental in developing Goodmans’ market-leading communications law practice. Mr. Malcolmson also served as General Counsel and then as President of Headline Media Group Inc., a publicly traded media company, which included the specialty television network The Score. Mr. Malcolmson holds an LL.B. from the University of Windsor.  He was called to the Ontario Bar in 1990.

John Pecman is a Senior Business Advisor in the Antitrust/Competition & Marketing group. With over 34 years of experience enforcing Canada’s Competition Act, Mr. Pecman served from June 2013 as the Commissioner of Competition of the Competition Bureau Canada for a five-year term. Mr. Pecman held executive positions with the OECD Competition Committee and the International Competition Network (ICN) and also served as ICN/OECD Liaison to ensure coordination of work by these international bodies. Presently he is a Non-Government Advisor (NGA) to the ICN, member of Business at the OECD (formerly BIAC), member of the leadership with the American Bar Association, Antitrust Section, as well as the TMX Industry Professor at DeGroote Business School at McMaster University and a Senior Fellow with the CD Howe Institute, Competition Policy Committee.

Holly Shonaman has enjoyed a 20+ year RBC career and is responsible for the privacy risk management program across all businesses and functions. The program is supported by an enterprise team as well as a UK/EU Data Protection Officer and Privacy Officers worldwide. She has held a variety of roles at RBC, including strategy, sales strategic initiatives, communications and risk oversight. She began her RBC career as a lawyer with an M&A and bank regulatory focus. She holds a bachelor and masters of law, and is a Certified Information Privacy Manager.
