Business Council of Canada welcomes appointment of Dominic Barton as Canada’s Ambassador to China

The Business Council of Canada welcomes today’s appointment of Dominic Barton as Canada’s Ambassador to China. “Dominic Barton brings decades of experience and knowledge of China, which are invaluable assets at this critical time,” said Goldy Hyder, President and CEO of the Business Council.

“A strong Canada-China relationship is in the interests of both countries,” Mr. Hyder said. “Diplomacy requires mutual respect and open dialogue. Dominic Barton’s ability and sound judgement assure Canada of a respected voice in Beijing. We are pleased with the appointment and the signal that both sides see the importance of returning to normal bilateral relations.”

“We hope to see China reciprocate soon by appointing a new ambassador to Canada. The two countries have long benefited from a positive relationship, one in which we can agree to disagree while working to improve the lives of our citizens.”

The Business Council encourages all political leaders in Canada to put aside partisan differences in the interests of building a more constructive Canada-China relationship.
