Ensuring STEM addresses challenges of the future
In a feature interview with the Queens Alumni Review following his groundbreaking gift of $100 million to Queen’s engineering faculty Stephen Smith discusses the importance of STEM education in addressing urgent and complex issues facing future generations.
“There are a lot of complex problems facing us – climate change, productivity, health care, et cetera – and I see STEM education as being key to dealing with these issues. Engineers are already phenomenal contributors to society, but the more that we can train them to think more holistically, to think more outside the box, the better off we’ll all be. And I think this gift will help make that happen.”
