Committing to an Early Progress agreement with India

 On the occasion of Indian Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal’s visit to Canada, Goldy Hyder spoke with several media outlets about the importance of committing to an early progress trade agreement and the benefits for both countries.  

“It’s critically important, from a business perspective, to offer that predictability [and] stability around tariffs, dispute mechanisms and so forth.”

 “An agreement of some form in 2023 would signal that we’re serious about India for the longer run.” 

“We are not getting engaged or married, that may come. But let’s make dating work first and that means having a common understanding of making sure that it’s a win-win situation.”

“We are at an inflection point and in the geopolitical environment in which we find ourselves, democracies like India and Canada need to demonstrate the capacity to make progress on something like this because capital requires confidence,”
