Statement on Labour Force Survey, April 2020

Today’s job loss numbers from Statistics Canada underscore the devastating impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on so many Canadians.  Millions of people across the country are struggling due to circumstances beyond their control.  We appreciate the swift action on the part of the federal government, providing emergency relief to those experiencing a loss in income.

As business leaders, we are concerned about the toll this pandemic is having on our employees and our communities.  We also recognize that a healthy economy requires a healthy population.  Getting Canadians back to work safely depends on containing the virus, putting in place protective measures for employees and customers, and restoring consumer confidence.

Canada’s business leaders will continue to do their part to protect the health and well-being of their employees and to support those in need in their communities.  We appreciate the efforts of all levels of government to ramp up testing and increase supplies of personal protective equipment.  By working together, we can bring Canadians back to work in a safe and sustainable way.
