U.S., Canadian, and Mexican business leaders urge continued cooperation
The Business Roundtable, Business Council of Canada, and the Consejo Mexicano de Negocios today issued the following statement in advance of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement Free Trade Commission meeting held this week in Vancouver.
The United States–Mexico–Canada Agreement (USMCA) Free Trade Commission (FTC) meeting this week comes at a critical time for our region. Businesses, workers, farmers, and families are navigating many challenges and risks, including rising costs due to inflation, supply chain disruptions, and labor shortages. To meet these challenges, our three governments need to work together and partner with industry to ensure the strength, competitiveness, and resilience of the North American economy.
The USMCA was adopted with historic political and stakeholder support and provides the best foundation for a thriving and innovative regional economy. Since the last FTC meeting, however, each country has taken, or continued to take, steps that have undermined or risk undermining the benefits negotiated through enactment of the USMCA. Now is the time for leaders in all three countries to fully implement USMCA, and work together to promote a North American economic partnership to address shared, regional, and global challenges.
Business leaders from Canada, Mexico and the United States urge continued cooperation between government leaders and will continue to partner with our governments to realize USMCA’s full potential.
