Linamar Corporation is no stranger to investing in education, jobs and skills, but the company has just kicked it up a notch with a major investment in Western University’s combined engineering and business undergraduate degree program. The Linamar Scholarships for Women in Engineering and Business is the result of a $5-million gift from the company, CEO Linda Hasenfratz, her husband Ed Newton, and her father Frank Hasenfratz, Linamar’s founder.

The donation will fund half the cost of tuition for 10 women a year, but that’s not all. Students will also get a guaranteed co-op placement while in school and a job at the end of the program.

A graduate of Western, Linda Hasenfratz has long been an advocate for women entrepreneurs and business leaders, and a champion for women who choose careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math). “I feel like it’s really going to move the dial in terms of women in engineering and women in leadership and women in business, which means a lot to me,” she said.
